President
Muhammadu Buhari wants traditional rulers in the country to continue to
remind their subjects of the need to live in peace and unity.
The president said this on Monday when
he hosted members of the national traditional rulers council of Nigeria
at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
The president who drew the attention of
the traditional rulers to changes in the revenue profile of the country
since 1999 said his administration would remain resolute in pursuing
programmes and policies geared towards improving the well being of
Nigerians despite the drop in national income.
President Buhari urged state governors
who recently received Paris club refunds from the federal government to
do more to alleviate the sufferings of their people.
The traditional rulers across the six
geo-political zones of the country said they were in the villa to
welcome President Buhari back from his medical vacation, and assured the
president of their resolve to stand by him in addressing the nation's
challenges.
Among notable traditional rulers at the
meeting were the sultan of Sokoto Sa'ad Abubakar, Ooni Of Ife, Oba
Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Emir Of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi And The King Of
Opobo Kingdom, Dandison Jaja.
